Shampoo bottles

WHY do they make shampoo bottles with shoulders? And with those tiny little holes and no way for air to get in, so it takes a sideshow strongman to get the stuff out?

From a marketing standpoint, I actually understand the shoulders – they sell you 20 ounces, but you get to use only 18 before you have to buy a new bottle. But the other? You’d think they’d want you to be using too much, and the easiest way would be to have the shampoo actually come out easier and more quickly.

If anyone asked me, I’d tell them that shampoo should be sold in the same cone-shaped squeeze containers as mustard.

Why do you suppose nobody ever asks me these things?
